MCP: use STYD from AI apps

How to connect Odoo to Claude

Ask questions about your Odoo data in plain words in Claude. Speak To Your Database (STYD) connects with an Odoo API key: no module to install, read-only, and it answers with the figures and how they were counted.

What you need

  • Odoo 15 and later, on Odoo.sh, self-hosted, or on Odoo Online with a plan that includes the external API.
  • A free Speak To Your Database account (20 free prompts, no card).

Steps

  1. Create an Odoo API key. In Odoo, click your avatar, open your profile, then Account Security → New API Key (turn on developer mode if you do not see it; if Odoo asks for a scope, choose RPC). Create the key as the Odoo user whose data STYD should read. A dedicated read-only user is best: everyone in your workspace sees what that user sees. Copy the key right away: Odoo shows it only once.
  2. Add the key in Speak To Your Database. Sign in to STYD and open Connect Odoo. Enter your Odoo address and paste the key. On Odoo 15 to 18, STYD also asks for the Odoo login and the database name. Test, then save.
  3. Add Speak To Your Database in Claude. Open STYD's listing in the Claude directory and add it from there, or open Settings → Connectors, choose Add custom connector, give it a name (for example “STYD”) and paste the address https://speaktoyourdatabase.com/mcp. Then choose Connect. Step by step: Use STYD from Claude.
  4. Sign in and click Allow. A Speak To Your Database page opens: continue with Google, or enter your email address and open the sign-in link STYD sends you. Use the same email as your STYD account. STYD shows what Claude will be able to do: read data you already have access to, read-only. Check the account, then click Allow.
  5. Ask a first question. Back in Claude, in a chat where the STYD connector is turned on, ask for example “What was our revenue last month?” or “Which customers have overdue invoices, and how much do they owe?”. Answers come in the language of the question.

If it does not work

  • No “New API Key” in Odoo: turn on developer mode. On Odoo 15 and 16, the menu item is Preferences. If Odoo asks for a scope, choose RPC.
  • STYD cannot reach your Odoo: if your server only accepts known addresses (a firewall or Cloudflare), allow STYD’s addresses 109.123.235.222 (IPv4) and 2407:3640:2324:5796::1 (IPv6). STYD cannot reach a server that only has a localhost or private-network address: use its public address.
  • Odoo Online refuses the connection: if Odoo blocks external access on your plan, STYD tells you clearly.
  • Claude says nothing is connected: your STYD account has no data of its own yet. Connect Odoo in STYD (step 2), and sign in to Claude with the same email.
  • Signed in with the wrong account: sign out of STYD, sign in with the right account, then connect again from Claude.

FAQ

Do I need to install a module in Odoo?

No. Speak To Your Database connects with an Odoo API key: there is nothing to install in Odoo.

Can it change my Odoo data?

No. It is read-only: it cannot create, change or delete anything in Odoo, and it reads with the access of the API key's Odoo user. Passwords, tokens, keys, and card or bank numbers are always hidden.

What does it cost?

Each answer uses one prompt of the workspace you ask about. A new account comes with 20 free prompts, no card needed. Listing workspaces and connections and describing data are free. See the plans.

How is it different from Odoo's own MCP server?

Odoo's own MCP server, from Odoo 20, turns the server actions an Odoo administrator chooses into tools and can read and write. Speak To Your Database runs outside Odoo, only reads, works with Odoo 15 and later, and answers business questions with the definition, the period and the filters stated. Compare the Odoo MCP servers.

Can I connect several companies?

Yes. Each company is kept in its own Speak To Your Database workspace. Claude can ask about any workspace you belong to, and each answer uses a prompt of the workspace it is about.

Which Odoo versions are supported?

Odoo 15 and later, on Odoo Online, Odoo.sh or your own server. On Odoo Online, your plan must include the external API: if Odoo blocks it, STYD tells you clearly.
