Odoo Version Upgrade & Deployment

Plan and execute safer Odoo version upgrades and migrations — with staging tests, backups, module compatibility checks, and a deployed, hardened environment afterwards.

For self-hosted Odoo. Every upgrade starts with an assessment — no guesswork, no upgrading straight on production.

The upgrade challenge

Why Odoo upgrades go wrong

Upgrading Odoo is rarely a one-click job once you have real data and customisations. The risk is in the details — so we plan for them.

Custom modules break

Customisations and third-party apps often need changes to work on a newer Odoo version.

Data migration is risky

Moving the database to a new version can fail or corrupt data if it isn't tested first.

Upgrading in production is dangerous

Upgrading the live instance with no staging or rollback plan can mean real downtime.

Old versions fall behind

Older Odoo can miss security fixes and features — but the jump needs to be planned, not rushed.

How we approach an upgrade

Assess, stage, test, deploy, validate

Step 1

Assess

Review your current version, custom modules, and data to gauge upgrade readiness and risk.

Step 2

Stage

Build a staging copy so the upgrade can be tried and tested without touching production.

Step 3

Migrate & test

Run the migration on staging, fix module issues, and validate the data — with backups in place.

Step 4

Deploy & harden

Deploy the upgraded Odoo with HTTPS, a reverse proxy, and a hardened server setup.

Step 5

Validate

Run post-upgrade checks so the team can confirm the key workflows still work as expected.

Deployment & hardening

The upgraded Odoo, deployed safely

An upgrade isn't done until it's running on a solid environment. Deployment includes the VPS setup, an Nginx reverse proxy, HTTPS, PostgreSQL configuration, backups, and basic monitoring. If you want a focused review of what's exposed on an existing server, the Odoo Security Audit covers exactly that.

  • Ubuntu VPS, with the upgraded Odoo deployed (Docker or native).
  • Nginx reverse proxy and Let's Encrypt HTTPS.
  • PostgreSQL kept off the public internet; least-privilege roles.
  • Automated backups with a tested restore, plus basic monitoring.
After the upgrade

Optional read-only analytics

  • Once you're on the new version, we can add a read-only database role for analytics.
  • STYD can then answer business questions from your Odoo data — with the SQL shown — without any write access. See AI Business Intelligence for Odoo.
// ===== Upgrade assessment note =====

Every Odoo upgrade starts with a technical assessment. We review your current version, modules, database, hosting setup, backups, and business constraints before recommending the safest upgrade path. The goal is to reduce migration risk with staging tests, backups, rollback planning, and post-upgrade checks. This service is focused on self-hosted Odoo environments; Odoo Online / SaaS setups may require a different approach.

Upgrade Odoo without the gamble.

Tell us your current Odoo version and setup — we'll assess readiness and plan a safer upgrade and deployment.
