Limits

Documents has limits for each file, limits that depend on your plan, and a few fair-use limits that protect the service.

Limits for each file

These are the same on every plan.

Up to 20 MB per file
Up to 300 pages per file
Spreadsheets: up to 300,000 rows per file
Spreadsheets: up to 200 columns in one table

A page is one page of a PDF (a scanned page too), one photo, or about 3,000 characters of a Word or text file. Spreadsheets are counted in rows, not pages. A file over a limit is refused with a message that says which one.

Limits that depend on your plan

  • How many files, how many pages and how many spreadsheet rows a workspace can keep.
  • How many files you can add each day.
  • How many pages and how many spreadsheet rows STYD reads each month for the workspace.

The Pricing page lists the counts for each plan. Settings, then Usage, shows what your workspace has used.

The daily limits reset at midnight UTC and the monthly ones on the 1st of the month, UTC. Files you delete, replace or that fail still count toward the daily and monthly limits, because STYD already spent the work of reading them.

If you change plan

A workspace that goes back to the free access keeps all its files. They stay searchable and nothing is deleted. Only new files are checked against the limits of the plan you have now, so you may need to delete a file before you can add another.

Fair-use limits

To keep reading files fast for everyone, STYD also limits how many files one workspace can send in an hour, how many files can wait to be read, and how much reading a workspace can use in a month. A free workspace has a small allowance for reading files. If you reach one of these limits, the message says when to try again, or asks you to add a plan. If you need more, contact us from the support page.
