What Documents does

Documents lets you add your own files to a workspace and ask questions about them in chat. Each answer names the file it comes from, so you can check it.

What you can add

PDF, Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx), CSV, text (.txt and .md) and JSON files, plus scanned PDFs and photos (JPG and PNG). The Supported files page lists what is read from each type and what is refused.

How to add a file

1. Open Settings, then Documents.
The tab is next to Connections, Usage and Members.
2. Drop files or choose them.
You can add several at once. Each file shows its status: Queued, Processing, Ready or Failed.
3. Ask in chat.
When a file is Ready, ask a question about it. A scan can take several minutes.

Who can add and delete files

Only the owner and admins of a workspace can add or delete files. Every member can see the list. Anyone who can ask questions in the workspace gets answers from all of its files: there are no permissions per file. A database API key can never add or delete a file.

What happens to the original file

STYD does not keep a copy you can download. Once a file has been read, the original is deleted. If reading stops half way, the original is deleted within about 24 hours. What stays is the text STYD extracted, its search index and a short description, until you delete the file. See Privacy and deletion.

What it costs

Adding a file costs no prompt. A question about your files is a question like any other and uses a prompt when it is answered. How many files, pages and spreadsheet rows you can keep and read depends on your plan: the Pricing page lists the counts. See Limits.

The Uploaded files connection

The first time you add a file, STYD creates a connection called Uploaded files in the workspace. You cannot edit or archive it. A workspace that has only documents and no Odoo or database connection can still use chat: the chat opens on Uploaded files, suggests a few questions taken from your ready documents, and answers from the files. Spreadsheets also appear there as tables, see Spreadsheets.

Answers come from the best passages STYD finds, not from reading a whole file at once. Ask a precise question, then check the source under the answer.
