Status tags

STYD shows a status line while it works and small tags after an answer is ready. They tell you what is happening and how the answer was produced. The exact tags shown depend on the question and answer type, so you will not always see all of them.

Status line while it runs

While STYD works, one status line under your question shows the current stage, with a placeholder where the answer will appear. If an earlier answer in the thread is still running, it says “Waiting for current answer to finish”.

A stage label
What STYD is doing now, for example “Understanding your question” or “Preparing query and running query”. The list is below.
The answer
The line is replaced by the answer when it is ready.
A failure
“This answer could not be finished. Try asking again.” The technical reason stays out of the way and is in “How I found this”.

Progress labels while running

While running, STYD may show short progress labels so you can follow the steps. These describe progress only, they are not the final result. Examples include:

  • Understanding your question
  • Planning approach
  • Selecting tables and reading schema
  • Finding columns
  • Preparing query and running query
  • Validating result and verifying claims
  • Formatting answer
  • Adding advice (the answer from your data is shown while a General knowledge part is written)

Tags shown under an answer

Some answers include small tags that explain where the answer came from and how sure STYD is. Treat these as guidance, not guarantees.

Source
Whether the answer came from your database results or relied more on model reasoning. “General knowledge” means it was written from general knowledge, not from your data.
Confidence
A rough indication of how confident STYD is in the answer.
Verification
Whether the answer’s claims were checked against the available data.

How to interpret them

A database-sourced, verified, higher-confidence answer is the strongest signal. When an answer relies more on model reasoning, or shows lower confidence, double-check it before acting. Open “How I found this” under the answer to review the logic and data used.

An answer or part labelled General knowledge is not read from your data. Treat it as general advice, and check anything that depends on your situation.
