Overview
A connection tells STYD how to reach a data source so it can answer questions about it. Connections are managed per workspace.
What a connection is
A connection stores the details STYD needs to read from your data: the driver, host, port, database, user, and password (plus a schema for PostgreSQL). STYD supports PostgreSQL and MySQL databases. Odoo is also supported and has its own section.
Where to manage connections
Connections are managed from Settings → Connections. An older standalone /connections route may still work as a compatibility or deep link.
Read-only by design
STYD answers by running read-only queries. It is designed to read your data, not change it. Connecting with a read-only database user is the recommended practice.
localhost or a private network is not reachable from STYD Cloud, and there is no SSH tunnel option; a custom, private installation can reach it (see Custom AI).When to create a new connection
After you create one
Test the connection first, then save it. After you save a database, STYD offers to analyse it with the AI Guide. Your first analysis is included while your workspace has an AI Guide setup left (see Pricing) and starts by itself; otherwise STYD shows its price in prompts and an owner or admin confirms it. You can chat with the connection before the analysis is done, but answers improve once it is.
