Iterative prompting
The fastest way to a precise answer is usually a short conversation, not one perfect question. Start broad, then refine.
Start broad, then narrow
Ask the big-picture question first, for example a monthly trend.
Look at the answer, then refine with a follow-up.
Adjust one thing at a time: the timeframe, a filter, the grouping, or the metric.
Follow-ups use the thread context
Within the same thread, STYD keeps the recent conversation in context, so you can say “now only this year” or “break that down by region” without repeating the whole question.
First question
“Show total revenue by month for 2025.”
“Show total revenue by month for 2025.”
Follow-up
“Now only for paid invoices.”
“Now only for paid invoices.”
When to start a new thread
Start a fresh thread when you switch to an unrelated topic, or when you need a different connection or data source. A thread uses one connection, so a new data source means a new thread.
Context lives within a thread. Do not assume STYD remembers earlier threads or carries definitions between conversations, capture lasting definitions in Brief your assistant instead.
