KPI queries
KPI-style questions work well when you include a timeframe, a grouping, a filter, and sometimes a comparison. Here are generic examples to adapt.
Example questions
“Monthly revenue for 2025, by month.”
“How many unpaid invoices are there, and what is the total?”
“Top 10 customers by revenue last quarter.”
“Which products performed best this year by units sold?”
“How large is the current operational backlog?”
Add a comparison when useful
Comparisons turn a number into a signal — for example “this month vs last month” or “this year vs last year”. Naming the comparison helps STYD line up the right periods.
Validate the important ones
For figures you will report or act on, open “How this answer was calculated” to check the logic and filters, and confirm the numbers before relying on them.
